Coming Home Hope Valley Line Etching

coming home hope valley line train pacer carriage etching swizzels

'Coming home, Hope Valley Line.' Etching and aquatint. View from the window of the Manchester to Sheffield train as it approaches New Mills Central. The lights of Swizzels Matlow across the valley are a sign of home. The ironically titled 'Pacer' is an unpopular old banger of a train, made from a bus chassis and intended only to be temporary. Long overdue for retirement it continues to rattle on. This etching is also homage to the artist Eric Ravilious and his 1939 painting, 'Train landscape'. Printed at Hot Bed Press, Salford.
